Luke: Jesus for Everyone

The Cleansed Leper

Luke 17:17-18

Then Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine—where are they? Was no one found who returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner?”

Summary

In today’s message, Pastor Brian showed us that the attitude of a disciple should be one of gratitude giving God the glory for all of the things he has and continue to do in our lives. He pointed out that the lepers were commanded to go show themselves to the priest and it was not until they acted in faith that they received their healing. Ten were healed but only one turned back to show his gratitude by glorifying God with a loud voice. Jesus may also require us to act on our faith before seeing results and it is important that we always show our gratitude by giving God the Glory.

Discussion

  • What was the difference between the attitude of the one leper and the other nine?
  • Why do you think God sometimes requires us to ask on our faith first before we see results?
  • In what ways should our life reflect the life of Christ towards those who are hurting and in need?
  • How can we show our gratitude to God for his working in our lives?

Prayer

Pray with thanksgiving to God for his work in your life. Confess to God the times when you have not given him glory. Ask God to help trust him and be willing to act on your faith. Commit to living a life always moving toward the hurting to meet their need.
