Luke: Jesus for Everyone

LUKE: FOLLOW ME

Luke 5:9-11

For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.

Summary

Today Pastor Matt continued our series in Luke and looked at the calling of Peter and the disciples. In a moment of hardship, Jesus performed a miracle to show Peter who He really was. Peter immediately realized how sinful he was and how unworthy he was to be near Jesus. Through Peter’s interaction with Jesus, he gained a greater trust in the Lord. When Jesus asked Peter to follow him, Peter was willing to leave everything behind because he trusted Jesus. Jesus amazingly turned a fisherman into a fisher of men. In this story, Jesus asked Peter to trust, obey, and follow. Jesus asks the same of us.

Discussion

  • Name one area of your life that you struggle to trust God with?
  • As we grow closer to God, we become more aware we are of our own sin. What is one sin you are struggling with?
  • Jesus is asking us to follow him. What does that look like in your life?

Prayer

Pray for God to reveal any area where you do not trust Him. Confess the times where you struggle to obey Him. Ask for opportunity to step out in faith. Commit to following God with your whole heart.
