I BELIEVE

“BELIEVE: SUFFERED UNDER PONTIUS PILATE, WAS CRUCIFIED, DIED, AND WAS BURIED”

Romans 5:7-9

“For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God”

Summary

The Cross is the place where God’s love and his righteous anger collide in a beautiful redeeming picture. God’s love is so extravagant and so inexplicable that he loved us before we were us. He loved us before we existed. He knew many of us would reject him, hate him, curse him, rebel against him. Yet he chose to love us. God drank the cup of the wrath of God for us and we are now reconciled to Him.

Discussion

  • Take a moment and talk about what the cross means to you.
  • How can you avoid taking for granted the great sacrifice that God has made for us on the cross?
  • What are some simple ways we can remind ourselves of the love of God, that was shown on the cross?

Prayer

Pray together with those in your home. Thank God for the cross. Ask Him to remind you of His great love for you. Commit to telling others of the good news of the cross.
