Integrity: GROW AND SERVE FOR THE GOSPEL

Philippians 2:12-13

So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

Summary

As we listened to Pastor Brian’s sermon we learned that personal integrity is another key characteristic we need to participate in the spreading of the Gospel. Integrity is doing what is right even when no one is looking. We grow in integrity as we grow spiritually. We do not work for our salvation but God works in us to bring about the intended result or fruit of our salvation which produces integrity. We need to grow in our reverent attitude toward God, toward a life of integrity, toward a life of unity without grumbling and complaining, and finally toward a life that holds fast to the gospel as the word of life.

Discussion

  • Why is it important to understand that it is God working in us that results in spiritual growth and integrity? (as opposed to us working in our own ability)
  • How does our integrity or lack of integrity affect us growing and serving for the Gospel?
  • What were some of the characteristics of Paul, Timothy, and Epaphroditus that compelled them to service for the Gospel?

Prayer

Pray for our church to focus on loving God and growing spiritually. Confess those areas of your life that are not surrendered to God. Ask God to work in you and to do his will so that you might be effective in spreading the Gospel. Commit to growing spiritually and living a life of integrity that reflects the influence of the Gospel in your life resulting in you influencing others.
