Faith Talk for September 4, 2016

Restore the Home:
Parent as Primary Faith Trainer

Deuteronomy 6:6-7

“And these words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.

Summary

Our message this Sunday presented three ways every parent can successfully serve as the Primary Faith Trainer of their child. Even though parents with children in the home is the context of Deuteronomy 6:6-7, we also learned these principles apply to every disciple making relationships.

  • Authentic Modeling of loving God is the most important role you have in the home
  • Faith Talks are consistent times set aside to impress the love of God and the truth of Scripture on those in your home.
  • God moments are intentional opportunities to impress the love of God and truth of Scripture on those in your home.

Discussion

  • Where is your heart in relationship with God? Is it in a place to pass on faith to the next generation?
  • How can we begin to practice Faith Talks in our Home? What is the greatest challenge? When would be the best time for everyone to meet?
  • Do we spend enough time with those of our home for there to be God moments? What changes might we need to make for this to happen?
  • Discipleship Principle: How do these principles (Love God, consistent Faith Talks, capture God Moments) apply to all disciple making relationships?

Prayer

Thank God for His love and grace toward you and your home. Confess that you desire a deeper love and passion for Him. Ask Him to stir that love in you. Commit to your Quiet Time this week.
