Milestone 2 bridges the gap between your commitment to be the primary faith trainer of your child at Milestone 1: Family Commitment and the time when your child better understands the message of the gospel at Milestone 3: Gospel Foundation. As children ages 5-6 (kindergarten-1st grade) are learning and practicing reading skills, parents have the opportunity to build a foundation of biblical knowledge, Bible study and prayer in their child’s life. Milestone 2 begins to equip your child to know and understand the Bible as the basic guide for his life as a Christ follower. Understanding what the Bible is and knowing how to use it are skills that your child can begin to develop as he learns to read. You have the opportunity to help your child make the Bible one of the first books he reads on his own.

The biblical mandate for parents to develop this milestone is found in Joshua 1:8 –

This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may [be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.

Milestone 2 begins to equip your child to know and understand the Bible as the basic guide for his life as a Christ follower. He will understand that the Bible is REAL in contrast to so many parts of our culture and his environment which are fantasy or imaginative.

At our church event in August, parents of new second graders will receive a Bible to present to their child. You will also receive a family devotional highlighting the anchors of Milestone 3.

Learn more about Milestone Two at our Milestone Two breakout at Parent Summit, coming in 2022.
